The True Ride Behind the Man Who Braved the Bull
Luke Perry stars as Lane Frost, a young bull riding prodigy from Oklahoma who chases a dream as dangerous as it is dazzling. Raised by his father Clyde, Lane grows up absorbing rodeo culture the grit, the glory, and the scars. With loyal friends like Tuff Hedeman (Stephen Baldwin) and Cody Lambert at his side, Lane climbs the professional circuit even as the demands of fame, love, and loyalty strain both his marriage to Kellie Kyle and his own self-worth. He wins the 1987 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Bull Riding World Championship, but his ascent is tempered by real stakes: dangerous rides, emotional distance, and the knowledge that one misstep could mean disaster. The film doesn’t shy from the heartbreak either tragedy strikes, and with it Lane’s legacy becomes as much about courage and heart as accolades.
Director John G. Avildsen helms this emotional true-story drama with respect for both the man and the myth. The film balances pulse-pounding rodeo scenes with quieter, deeply human moments: a young couple figuring out life, a father’s complicated pride, and a man wrestling with what it means to be a champion. While the sport provides drama, it’s the relationships and inner conflict that leave the lasting impression.
